Our first day included a number of superb sights, but the pieste de resistance was definitely the climb of the Great Wall of China. There was a choice of two sides to climb – one to the west that was much steeper and one to the east that was a little more gentle. We chose the difficult one and were thrilled to get to the top where #14 Beacon Tower was located! We were in the shade and so fairly comfortable. Others were in the sunshine and quite warm. It was a good thing that we went in the afternoon, when the temperatures were pleasant and it was not so crowded. Here are a couple of taster pictures. More will follow when I have slightly easier internet access!
